I have a chance to pick up a RIA ( or Armscor ) 1911 Tactical, do any of you have any experience with the particular model? I think its just a different hammer and trigger, right?

Improved sights, but you'll want to swap out the ambi safety for something stronger. I had two of those Mueschke safeties break on me - went to Wilson.

Next build will use Brown.

Sorry forgot to update this, turned out to be an actual Armscor 1911 which apparently are no longer imported into the US, im not sure of the year it was made though as I have yet to get a response from Armscor. I did find out it is an Armscor "PRACTICAL" which is the same as the RIA Tactical but the slide is branded "Armcor 45" and they are no longer imported for some reason.

I have shot around 750 rounds through it in the last few days and only had one problem, an improperly seated primer did not allow the gun to go to full battery, pulled the trigger and um nothing lol, ejected it and the next one fed fine.

found out it has the following " practical/tactical " stuff on it

Snag-free rear sight; 2.5 - 4.5 pound trigger pull; Ambidextrous safety, Combat hammer, High sweep beavertail grip safety; Combat trigger, Extended ejector, Beveled magazine well, blued finish, Polymer grip is stock: wood optional.

Do you use a particular mag in yours or do the standard 15 dollar GI mags do OK at the range?

Armscor is the parent company for Rock Island. RI has developed a good following since the brand was introduced, deservadely so I might add, and this may be the reason for stopping the import of Armscor badged guns. The Armscor/RI guns are a "Best Buy" and I think their Tactical/Practical is the best of the bunch.

Enjoy your gun...

While the technician is more important than the technology it is good to remember that a 9mm might expand but a .45 won't shrink
